Integrated pest and disease management in citrus fruits

From the Plant Protection Center of the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (IVIA), the app “Integrated management of pests and citrus diseases” is launched as a support support in decision making within a GIP program. This app arises with the intention of becoming a powerful reference tool for citrus professionals.

The app is structured in order to offer intuitive access to all the information available on the web, so it has a great value as a consultation tool. It has different sections in which information about all pests and diseases that attack citrus fruits can be obtained.

These sections are based on the foundations of integrated pest management, that is:

1) The correct identification of each plague and the damage it produces, through a large number of high quality photographs

2) The sampling methods and treatment thresholds, where the types of sampling and thresholds from which a treatment and treatment and

3) The control methods, where the various strategies (biological, biotechnical, cultural or chemical) are exposed to follow for each of the pests.

A section is included where you can consult the characteristics of each of the natural enemies present in our citrus. Each natural enemy is also accompanied by high quality photos to facilitate its field identification. The side effects section is of vital importance, since it shows the possible and variable negative effect of phytosanitary on the most relevant natural enemies in the citrus ecosystem.

The citrus GIP app is conceived to be a dynamic information source, which reflects the actuality of pest management and incorporates the results of new research periodically. To this end there is the notice section, a tool that allows users to inform themselves weekly of the novelties and news of interest through an email aimed at subscribers.
