If you are an adventure traveler or if you like trekking in unknown places, Orma GPS is a smart and useful solution to keep track of your journeys, holidays and walks.
When you are traveling or walking along a trail with your phone in a pocket, you may find comfortable to save a trace of your tour, even in low signal condition, and using exclusively the GPS portion of your smartphone you, eventually excluding data roaming and other connections.
Traditionally it is possible to achieve this target with two solutions: a simple tracker which samples the current position on fixed time delays or a precise continuous tracker, sampling the position continuously, which causes the smartphone battery to fall in a few hours.
Orma GPS attempts to manage the GPS in a more clever way than a simple timed reading: with this application you can choose not only the time lag between readings but also a specific profile of your activity, specifically choosing from walking, running, biking , car touring or riding a rocket. The application will therefore adapt the sampling delays of the GPS data according with this setting, attempting to reach the best combination of accuracy a sampling delay, optimizing the battery life.
For example, if you are stationary in a place for a long time, Orma GPS increases the time lag of the GPS samples. However, when a movement is detected, the time lag decreases trying to follow your speed.
In this way, fixing a reasonable maximum time limit, you can have a good quality sampling (smooth path line) and save your battery life: Orma GPS will adapt the sampling rate dynamically for you.
Orma GPS also has additional behaviors concerning the GPS signal strength analysis, the signal failure, the search for the best reading and more. A simple help system will guide you between menus, options and controls.
Orma GPS produces KML files, that can be exported by Mail, Bluetooth and to any other external program allows you to handle KML files or simply saved to your external SDCARD. The best way to edit later this file is Google Earth application for your Personal Computer.
You can also use some simple e and often free GeoTagging Software applications to geo-reference the photos taken with an external (and maybe professional) camera, by cross-matching the Time-Stamps of the picture files with this file.
Finally, you will be allowed to place a 'footprint' in your KML file directly by Orma GPS, with a little comment that will be inserted in your final path to remember where you been at that time or what you were doing.
